Kolmanskop ghost town
A former diamond-mining village slowly being reclaimed by sand.

DESTINATION
Atlantic history, desert architecture and dramatic coastal weather.
WHY GO
Lüderitz is a small coastal town on Namibia's south-west coast, known for its German colonial architecture, windswept Atlantic setting and the nearby ghost town of Kolmanskop. It feels remote and different from the northern safari circuit.
The coast is cool, windy and often foggy, even in summer, so bring layers. The cooler, clearer months (roughly May to October) are popular. Kolmanskop is best visited in the morning light.
Lüderitz is roughly 800 km from Windhoek, so most travellers split the drive with an overnight at Keetmanshoop or Aus. The last stretch passes through desert and, near Aus, an area where wild horses roam.

Art Nouveau and German-style buildings, including the Felsenkirche church.
Rugged coast, wildlife and wind-carved scenery.
Desert-adapted horses can sometimes be seen near the Garub waterhole.
Check Kolmanskop permit and opening arrangements. Strong winds are common, so secure belongings and protect camera gear from sand. Distances and driving times are approximate and depend on route, season and road conditions. Tsawises confirms the route, vehicle and timings in your written proposal.
