River safaris
Boat trips give close, quiet views of hippos, crocodiles and birds.

DESTINATION
River systems, lush habitats and a distinct wildlife rhythm.
WHY GO
The Zambezi Region in Namibia's far north-east is green, river-fed and quite unlike the rest of the country. Floodplains, wetlands and forest support elephants, hippos, crocodiles and exceptional birdlife, and river safaris replace the desert drives of the west.
The dry months (roughly May to October) are best for wildlife along the rivers. The wet season (roughly November to April) is lush, with outstanding birding, though some roads and camps can be harder to reach.
Katima Mulilo, the main town, is roughly 1,200 km from Windhoek, so most visitors fly or split the drive over two days. The route follows the paved Trans-Caprivi Highway, passing wildlife areas such as Bwabwata National Park.

Wildlife areas known for elephants and varied birdlife.
The wetlands attract many species, especially in the wet season.
The area is close to the Chobe region in Botswana and Victoria Falls, subject to visa and border arrangements.
Ask a travel doctor about malaria precautions before visiting. Carry documents for any border crossing, and confirm vehicle cross-border permissions in advance. Distances and driving times are approximate and depend on route, season and road conditions. Tsawises confirms the route, vehicle and timings in your written proposal.
